acrylic painting, Burr Oak Woods
Almost November
acrylic on paper
10x5 inches

Here I was celebrating the tangled beauty of undergrowth at Burr Oak Woods, in Jackson County, Missouri. Acrylic seemed like a good choice for layer upon layer of leaves, vines, and branches without mushing and muddying underlying paint. I painted this in the studio from a photo taken on a walk. The texture of the stretched Arches 140 lb watercolor paper under the soft brush was fun. I continue to be amazed at this largely yawned at miracle we walk through. God made and preserves every living thing we see (trees, animals, people) made out of nothing but mud and sunlight!
