This was painted in my studio from a photo reference I took while camping and painting at Rocky Mountain National Park. Moments like this go so far beyond my ability to capture! “He touches the mountains, and they smoke.” “And in His temple everything says, ‘Glory!‘“ (Psalms 29:9b; 104:32b NASB) My little painting is just an awed nod to the glory of God. The camera left out a lot of red color here. Hallett Peak was painted with much more orange to depict the morning sun’s warm light. This painting was a return to acrylic painting and a limited palette. In the past, acrylic on panel has pulled me toward tighter, detailed rendering. This time I resisted this pull and kept it loose and painterly. It came together quickly, as layers of paint covered pervious dried applications, all over a warm toned ground. My palette consisted of only Naphthol Crimson, Cadmium Yellow Light, Ultramarine Blue, and Titanium White (all Utrecht Acrylics). I was pleased with the intensities of greens produced by Cadmium Yellow Light with Ultramarine Blue
