Studio Painting

UNFRAMED

This view is from the Habitat Trail in Burr Oak Woods Conservation Area in Blue Springs, Missouri. I have walked the trails there for years for exercise and pleasure. But the overwhelming complexity and tangle of the deep woods intimidated me as a painter. Recently I'm finding that just like any subject, the light of early morning and late afternoon can create visually interesting large shape areas of light and dark value. I wanted my composition to lead the viewer's eye in an "S" curve back into space along the dry creek bed and across the yellow grass line to the right, then down the right side framing trees to the shadows on the lower right foreground to begin the journey again in the dry creek bed.
