This formation towers above the Chama River, as seen from the Highway 84 bridge near Abuquiu, New Mexico. I worked from photographs, a plein air field study, and fond memories. The Chama River valley is one of my very favorite places on earth when the sunlight slants in during the afternoon and evening hours. Rivers illustrate the supply of God's Spirit, bringing life into barren places. This painting was accepted in the 2008 National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society Best of America Exhibit.
