Some paintings are kind of a battle to bring together. The first 5% and the last 5% of the painting process are thrilling. But in the middle 90% I'm tempted to doubt my worth as an artist and a human being. This time though, things just seemed to fall together. The directly painted figures and layers of broken color in the water were pleasurable responses to the paint itself, as well as the subject matter.
